Oeschinensee is likely the most breathtaking mountain lake in Switzerland, located in Kandersteg. You might recognize Kandersteg as the gateway for the car train to Wallis, commonly referred to as “BLS Autoverlad.” To reach Kandersteg from any starting point in Switzerland, simply follow the signs for this train service until you can switch to signs for “Kandersteg.” Upon arriving at the village center, you’ll notice a brown sign indicating “Gondel Oeschinensee” on your left-hand side.
The Oeschinensee region has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Swiss Alps since 2001.
Oeschinensee is a destination that deserves your time. The lake is a favorite spot for campfires and barbecues against a backdrop of stunning views. Alternatively, you can rent a boat to fish or simply savor the scenery while others row. If the weather permits, you might even take a swim in the lake. And for those who can’t get enough of this incredible place, there is one hotel right on the lakeshore where you can spend the night.
See you in a few days 👣
And remember: “Hiking is the answer, who cares what the question is?”
